It is amazing to see how every day there is a new technology being developed or released that is centered around Twitter. Twitter was designed to be a way of communicating with others quicker and easier, and it has turned into one of the most widely used online services out there. There are so many different uses for Twitter that have been developed, it makes you think, what’s next?

Today, Twitter launched a new feature to the “tweet” world called Verified Accounts. This will allow all Twitterers to know if an account is actually what it says it is. They are starting this out with “well-known artists, athletes, actors, public officials, and public agencies” (Twitter). This is still in beta, (just like the entire website should be, but we aren’t going to go there today), so they are just in testing stages now with those “celebrities.” Do you want to get your account verified? Well most likely, for now, you won’t be getting the badge on your twitter page. This might change in the future, but for now Twitter plans to only “verify” those accounts that deal with impostor accounts. Will this change in the future? If it does, I don’t think it will for a long time, and honestly, I don’t think it really should. Because we will end up with so many verified accounts that we will have a hard time then believing which is actually a verified account or not. So what do you think of these new accounts? Joined Twitter but tired of going to the site to check your followers and update your status? Well DestroyTwitter, DT(w), may be the app for you. I have been using it for about a month now and it has been my favorite app of all the ones I have tried. I have used Twhirl and Tweetdeck but DT(w) has all the features that I want that the others didn’t quite have.

1. First off, the UI is very clean and easy to navigate around. Everything is where you expect it to be; replys, search, saved etc.
2. Replys are not just tweets that start with your username but actually include any tweet that includes your username in the tweet anywhere.
3. Search feature is great to have instead of directing my browser to search.twitter.com.
4. Keyboard shortcuts <> enough said.
5. “Shift” “Reply” << Replys to all users in a given tweet and the tweeter its self.
6. Creator Jonnie Hallman is always there to help out and take ideas.

Overall this has been my favorite desktop app for Twitter. Now it is new as of January 1, 2009 so there are still bugs on there. This usually scares someone but trust me, its worth it to use it. And if you download it, that will increase the amount of people testing and finding flaws or thinking of new ideas.
